RichardPennay

Co-Founder & President

Richard is an Australian national who has worked in reinsurance and capital markets since 2001. In co-founding Rewire, Richard has sought to truly integrate insurance and reinsurance with alternative capital markets capacity.

Richard began his career at Swiss Re in March 2001 and resigned in June 2014. After initially working as a reinsurance treaty underwriter in Australia, he relocated to Zurich, Switzerland with a focus on Product Management. In July 2006, Richard began working within Swiss Re Capital Markets in New York. Richard led the development of the Swiss Re Cat Bond Performance Indices in 2007 – the key performance benchmark used in assessing the market’s total return. Richard also pioneered the European industry’s initiative to establish PERILS, which was incorporated in 2009 and is now an integral part of the today’s ILS market. As a Senior Cat Bond Structurer, Richard has led the origination and structuring of numerous catastrophe bond transactions from new and existing cat bond sponsors over the years.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics, Banking and Finance majors) and a Bachelor of International Business from Griffith University. Richard is intensely interested in market dynamics and ways to extract efficiency gains. Richard has co-founded Rewire to finally reward insurance companies and investors with technological efficiency gains already being extracted in other markets.

Richard is married with three children and recently relocated from New York City to Bryn Mawr, PA.

Motto: Think Big. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

Something Interesting but Totally Irrelevant: Richard enjoys backpacking the world and putting his colleagues through hours of puns.
